Social Security spousal benefit - how much does my non-working spouse get?

105

My wife never worked (stayed home with kids for 20 years). I have a strong Social Security record. What spousal benefit is she entitled to? Does she have to wait until I claim? What happens to her if I die first? Can she get divorced-spouse benefits if we were divorced?

Great question. Based on my experience as a RICP® professional, here are the key points to consider regarding your situation. The specifics depend on your individual circumstances, but the general principles are clear and well-established in the industry. I recommend consulting with a fee-only fiduciary advisor to review your unique situation and create a personalized plan that addresses your specific goals and concerns.
