Long-term disability insurance — how does 'own occupation' vs 'any occupation' definition matter?
34
I'm a surgeon considering long-term disability insurance. I've heard 'own occupation' coverage is essential for medical professionals. What exactly does this mean? If I can't perform surgery but could theoretically teach or do consulting work, would an 'any occupation' policy deny my claim? How long does the own-occupation period typically last? Is it worth the extra premium?
