Are fixed indexed annuities ever appropriate for a 401k rollover?
42
I'm retiring and rolling over my $400k 401k to an IRA. The advisor managing my 401k (from the plan provider) is recommending a fixed indexed annuity inside the IRA. He says it provides market upside with no downside risk, and since it's already in a tax-deferred IRA, the annuity's tax deferral isn't redundant. Is an annuity inside an IRA ever a good idea, or is this just the advisor earning a commission?
